http://www.loiret.comThe castle of Sully-sur-Loire, with its tall towers and its deep moats, is a perfect example of a medieval fortress. It was built at the end of the 14th C., on a site which since Gallo-Roman Times commanded one of the few river crossings of the Loire.
The most famous of all its owners and Grand Minister of King Henri IV, was Maximilien De Béthune, first Duke of Sully.
It harbours a large number of tapestries, paintings, sculptures, furniture and architectural curiosities, notably: The Tapestries of Psyche, a collection of six enormous embroidered wallhangings from the 17th C.; the tomb of Sully and his second wife; magnificent roof timbers which are masterwork of carpentry art of 600 years ago...
